This story begins in the 1970s. The narrator is me, as a child. This is about first experiences. This is a personal account of how one moment can alter a child’s perception of the world.
Imagine we are in a snow dome. New York City is in the grip of a blizzard. A child sees snow for the first time. 70’s New York is full of graffiti. The city is dirty and decaying. Chinatown has an aura of discord, having displaced western society.
In the Summer, the streets of the ghetto are filled with Latino carnival vibes. Drumming, singing and dancing fill the streets. Multiculturalism becomes a subculture, an art form.
Art is about capturing and translating that moment and experience into something representational. Both fragrances are re-telling of a bygone era and narrative.’’
